Don’t Let Black Spot Become a Sore Spot for Your Beautiful Roses

Quick Facts

  • Black Spot thrives on many types of rose bushes and shrubs, especially during warm, wet, humid weather.
  • Black Spot can weaken the entire rose plant or even kill it.
  • Bayer Advanced offers a complete care product for roses that protects from diseases like Black spot and insects while fertilizing your roses as well.

Problem/Diagnosis

Rose Black Spot, caused by the fungus Diplocarpon rosae, is one of the most common causes of defoliation in landscape roses

The Black Spot fungus forms as small, dark, round spots that range in size from 1/16th to ½ inch in diameter on the upper sides of rose leaves.

This fungus turns the nearby parts of the leaf yellow, spreading to eventually make the entire rose leaf yellow and fall away. It continues on other leaves and stems, weakening the plant. The bush will begin producing fewer blooms and the rose’s ability to survive the winter months will be jeopardized.

  • The worst part is that the disease can live to infect the roses again and again. Black Spot survives in infected canes and fallen leaves of various roses. Even spores from dead rose foliage can spread to the highly susceptible, young, unfolding leaves in spring by splashing water. The fungus likes warm weather, but it can survive in many temperatures, staying all season long if moisture is adequate.

    Solution

Stop Black Spot on Your Roses Before It Starts

Bayer Advanced™ All-In-One Rose & Flower Care Concentrate protects your rose bushes before signs of Black Spot develop and before you see insect damage in early spring. It also can be applied upon new leaf emergence or first appearance of Black Spot to control the disease. The product saves you money by providing three products in one. It feeds and renews, protects against Black Spot and other diseases such as Powdery Mildew and rusts, and protects against damaging insects, such as Japanese beetles. Just mix in a watering can and pour it at the base of your rose bushes to protect against destructive disease and insects for up to six weeks while it feeds.

Always read and follow label instructions.
